What is Silica?

Silica is a form of silicon, one of the most common elements on earth. Earth’s crust, silicon is the second most abundant element after oxygen, making up 27.7% of the crust by mass. Found in rocks and stones. Not only is it found on earth’s crust but also in our bodies, and can be found on every organ and cell. It helps our connective tissues such as tendons, cartilage, hair, nails and bones. Your strong bones and nails and shiny hair and skin depend on the amount of silica produced by your body to retain moisture to keep it strong and young.

The human body contains approximately 7 grams of silicon, present in various tissues and body fluids. Orthosilicic acid is the form predominantly absorbed by humans and is found in numerous tissues including bone, tendons, aorta, liver and kidney.The silicon in blood is nearly entirely found as either free orthosilicic acid or linked to small compounds. In tissues it is mostly bonded to glycoproteins such as cartilage.

The amounts of silica produced by your body decreases as you get older.
